| Bible Answer Concerning "Communion" |
| Email Question: I praise God for this site. Could you please enlighten us on the issue of holy communion; as Christians how should we handle it? Our Response: We believe in Open Communion-- where all true born-again believers in Christ Jesus may participate. Communion is addressed in 1 Corinthians 11, following what our Lord commanded in the Gospels. 1Cor 11:26 For as often as ye eat this bread, and drink this cup, ye do shew the Lord's death till he come. We do not believe in the Catholic mass- where they believe that in every mass, they call down Christ and it is the actual body and blood that people are eating. This is NOT found in Scripture and is anti-biblical. The biblical viewpoint is that when Christians gather for communion, they do so in remembering the death [and resurrection] of our Lord Jesus Christ and it is a very serious gathering. One should not take it lightly. Make sure everything is right between you and God before partaking. (Read 1 Cor. 11 27-32). And the bread and wine [grape juice] are symbolic of the Lord's body broken for us and His blood-- which was shed for our sins-- on Mt. Calvary. And Believers are instructed to have communion (whether it is once a week, month, etc.) in remembrance of His Finished Work upon the cross..."till He come." http://www.geocities.com/cobblestoneministries/2006/ArnoCGaebelein_TILLHECOME.html ©2007 Cobblestone Road Ministries All Rights Reserved ---------------------------------------------------- Further Reading: Till He Come Our Lord's Triumph Psalm 40 - Messiah's Death And Resurrection Christ's Loving Words at His Last Supper and On The Cross |
