Beware of Narnia |
Romans 1:21-23 Because that, when they knew God, they glorified him not as God, neither were thankful; but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened. Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools, And changed the glory of the uncorruptible God into an image made like to corruptible man, and to birds, and fourfooted beasts, and creeping things. If one were to stand up in church and say, "I have a great book I want everyone to read. It is about mythical creatures and an evil witch and about a lion who dies to save another person's life..." Most Christians would say, "Why, that is New Age...that is the occult..." But yet Christians have purchased C.S. Lewis books for years. Worse yet, they have encouraged their children to read such occultic themes. Before you discard the "occultic themes" idea, read the following and see for yourself. This article is written primarily for those familiar with the "Lion, the Witch and The Wardrobe". Links are provided at the conclusion of this article for further study. Books have always played a large role in influencing the reader. Books can shape minds in any direction the reader is willing to go. Christian children have not memorized the 10 commandments but they know the Chronicles of Narnia. Such reality is a shame. The entire Narnia concept is NOT found in Scripture. Discerning Christians will catch the "rats" in Lewis' novels. What C.S. Lewis has given the children is "another jesus" and "another gospel". 1Thess 5:22 Abstain from all appearance of evil. THE WITCH First of all the title alone should tell a well discerning Christian that this is not of God. The Bible forbids the consultation of witches. According to some Narnia enthusiasts, the female witch is supposed to depict the devil. Why a female witch? Satan is always referred to as a male, not a female. The devil-- the arch-enemy of God, appears as an angel of light, not as an evil monster. His mission is to deceive. His "evil" is not blatantly obvious to most, as with the witch. His evil is to rebel against God Almighty and he entices the world in the most subtle ways. In Narnia, the "white witch" can turn people into stone. Nowhere in Scripture will you find the devil having such powers. In Narnia, the witch has control over the weather-- making it always winter and "never Christmas". Yet, the Bible says that God is in control and has a treasure of snow. Also remember in Genesis that God turned Lot's wife turn into a pillar of salt. So when children read Narnia and then read the story of Lot's wife, they say, "Oh kinda like what the evil white witch did in Narnia..." Drawing a parallel between God and the evil witch. Do you smell a rat? Read on... 2Cor 10:5 Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ; God's Word reveals to us everything we need to know. His Spirit teaches us as we read the bible. We do not need fictitious books that present mythical creatures or things that are contrary to Scripture. The Bible tells us that God so loved us that He sent His only Begotten Son to die for our SINS. Redemption is the message of the entire bible. We do not need fiction to convey this. We need to read God's words. God's word is truth. In John 17, we read of the heart of Jesus in His prayer to the Heavenly Father. We read of His love for His disciples. We do not need an allegorical tale to give us "better understanding"... we just need to read the bible! 1John 4:9 In this was manifested the love of God toward us, because that God sent his only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through him. Gal 1:8 But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed. ALLEGORY? Secondly, the Narnia series is not an allegory of the bible. Anyone who thinks that it is, needs to go back to the Bible and READ the Gospel message. One can write a book and place a hero in the midst but it does not mean that such a book is the Gospel story. How naive of Christians to assume for one minute that the bible needs improvement with so-called "allegorical tales" contrived in their vain imaginations! Should we rewrite God's words using our own? Is that not what it truly boils down to? Improving the Gospel story? You say, "Now wait a minute...I don't think that way at all..." It is interesting that Christians are calling the Narnia movie a great witnessing tool that is "not so offensive" to their unsaved friends. What ever happened to opening up the bible with your friend and presenting them the pure Gospel message straight out of God's Word? Oh, you say it is old fashioned? You say it is "archaic". Yet Jesus said, "If a man love me, he will keep my words..." John 12:48 says, "He that rejecteth me, and receiveth not my words, hath one that judgeth him: the word that I have spoken, the same shall judge him in the last day." Notice it is not C.S. Lewis' words that you need to believe. How can we possibly retell the Gospel message by using mythological creatures and fantasy? Does the Bible need improvement? The Bible is God's Holy Word. He gave us the Bible to learn. We don't need a retelling of the Gospel. The beautiful story of the Gospel needs no improvement, folks. To say that we need fiction to show us the way, means that the bible needs improvement with our own words in our own feeble understanding...which is completely unacceptable if you love Jesus and keep His Word. God's Word stands alone-- above every book and above every thought! STRANGE THEOLOGY OF C.S. LEWIS Let's understand where C.S. Lewis was coming from. He wrote: "A man who disbelieved the Christian story as fact but continually fed on it as myth would, perhaps, be more spiritually alive than one who assented and did not think much about it. The modernist—the extreme modernist, infidel in all but name—need not be called a fool or hypocrite because he obstinately retains, even in the midst of his intellectual atheism, the language, rites, sacraments, and story of the Christians. The poor man may be clinging (with a wisdom he himself by no means understands) to that which is his life…" The modernist or infidel need not be called a fool? The Word of God calls them FAR worse. Let the Christian learn what the bible says: that if a person is not born-again-- not born of God's Spirit, that unregenerate person cannot possibly be "more spiritually alive"-- that unsaved person is spiritually dead. The preaching of the Cross is foolishness to them that perish! 1Cor 2:14 But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned. 1Cor 1:18 For the preaching of the cross is to them that perish foolishness; but unto us which are saved it is the power of God. Did C.S. Lewis have a fear of God? In The Chronicles of Narnia, Lewis uses magic as a synonym for laws that God has written into the universe. The Bible forbids the use of magic and sorcery. God is Holy. Yet C.S. Lewis found it in his own heart to call God's laws, "deep magic"! 2Cor 11:13-14 For such are false apostles, deceitful workers, transforming themselves into the apostles of Christ. And no marvel; for Satan himself is transformed into an angel of light. Former witch, Pastor David J. Meyer, writes the following concerning Narnia: As a former witch, astrologer, and occultist who has been saved by the grace of God, I know that the works of C.S. Lewis are required reading by neophyte witches, especially in the United States and England. This includes The Chronicles of Narnia, because it teaches neophyte, or new witches, the basic mindset of the craft. Isn’t it strange, though, that many “Christian churches and organizations have used The Chronicles of Narnia as Sunday School curriculum? When I saw the release date of this new movie, I was not surprised. December 9th is the 13th day before the witches’ quarter-sabat of Yule. The full cold moon is midway between the release date and the sabat of Yule. The waxing moon is also directly on the equinox on the release date of the movie. This is far too precisely occultic to be coincidental, and the producers of the movie no doubt consulted upper-level witches regarding the perfect day to have the “Chronicles of Narnia open... The story of the Narnian Chronicle known as The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe is one of clandestine occult mysticism and is not Sunday School material unless your Sunday School is a defacto witch coven. The story involves a child from the normal everyday or mundane world. This girl, Lucy, who hides in a wardrobe as she is playing a game, suddenly finds herself transported to another world very unlike her own. It is a world of intelligent, talking animals and strange creatures. The little girl soon finds herself having tea with a faun. In witchcraft and ancient Roman pagan mythology, a faun is any of a group of rural deities, which have the bodies of men and the horns, ears, tails, and legs of a goat. The Roman god Faunus was also the god of nature and fertility and was connected to sexual lust. Here let it be noted that in the Narnian Chronicle Prince Caspian, this same strange land the little girl finds herself in is also populated by gods and goddesses; such as Bacchus, the god of drunken orgies, and the Maenads, who were frenzied women driven to madness in the orgiastic cult of Bacchus. Source: http://www.lasttrumpetministries.org/tracts/narnia_chronicles.html ---- One endorsement of the series reads: "Christians can safely place the Narnia series in the hands of their children and know that they will read nothing to challenge their faith, and the story can easily be read by children of all backgrounds without fear of indoctrination." The real question is will Christian children even have faith after reading the series? The Bible says that, "faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God." [Romans 10:17] ASLAN-- Another "Jesus" and Another Gospel In the make-believe world of Narnia, Aslan is a lion. According to some misguided Christians, Aslan is supposed to represent Jesus Christ. Yet Christ is fully God and fully man. Jesus is not an actual lion. How confusing it must be for children who learn their theology from The Chronicles of Narnia. The God of Heaven created man in HIS own image. God is not a lion. In Narnia, Mr. Tumnus, the faun, is a creature derived from mythology, that is half man, half beast-- a perversion of God's creation. In Lewis' novels, there are many mythical creatures described. This, my dear friends, is an abomination. God did not make such creatures. God made beasts separate from man-- each animal reproduces after its own kind. The Lord created man in His own image. Man is unique among the inhabited earth. God says in Isaiah 46:5, 9: "To whom will ye liken me, and make me equal, and compare me, that we may be like?... Remember the former things of old: for I am God, and there is none else; I am God, and there is none like me..." The Bible tells us that God created the Heavens and the earth! God is God and we CANNOT compare Him to anyone else...including a fictitious character like "aslan". We cannot give God another name. The Death of Aslan - Another Gospel The sacrifice of Aslan is not a biblical allegory at all. Aslan dies for the obvious sinner but yet Jesus died for ALL people; for all people are sinners- whosoever receives Him as Savior will have eternal life. The battle is won. Jesus is the Victor. The premise of the book is that the white witch has rightful ownership of Edmund, the traitor. The Deep Magic-- the magic that holds Narnia together-- requires that every traitor be handed over to the White Witch. Aslan negotiates with the White Witch for the release of Edmund, the traitor. In Narnia, the lion, Aslan, dies as a hero for one person-- Edmund, but in REALITY the Lord Jesus died for all people because ALL PEOPLE ARE SINNERS. Where is this biblical message found in the so-called C.S. Lewis allegory? Narnia does not address the sin nature of mankind. Romans 3:23 For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God; In Narnia: Lucy, Susan, and Peter are indeed sinners but yet Aslan does not die for them. Narnia preaches the ultimate Satanic lie-- "that if one is good, one does not need a Savior." In Narnia, only Edmund needs saving. The Narnia Series is New Age philosophy at its finest. God's Word tells us that even all liars shall have their part in the Lake of Fire and that one must receive Christ Jesus as Savior to escape the judgment. Rom 3:10 As it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one: Romans 5:8-9 But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. Much more then, being now justified by his blood, we shall be saved from wrath through him. John 3:17-18 For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved. He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God. Rev 21:8 But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death. How can a Christian possibly think that C.S. Lewis approaches Narnia from a biblical viewpoint? Do you recognize the dangers of likening God's Word to a book written by a mere man? The prophecies of the Bible are REAL-- not "deep magic", as in Narnia. If one wants to compare God's Holy Word to Narnia then they are blaspheming God's Word. Remember that Narnia was written for children. How dangerous this series becomes for a child who is taken in by this story! How dangerous to read a story where a perverted concept of God is introduced. God did not create Narnia. God created the earth. Hebrews 1:10 "And, Thou, Lord, in the beginning hast laid the foundation of the earth; and the heavens are the works of thine hands..." The earth is not an imaginary place but is VERY real. How presumptuous of man to conjure up in his puny mind the notion that such obvious occultic material could remotely resemble the PURE gospel message found in the Bible! ASLAN: THE SPIRIT OF ANTICHRIST Narnia is a fantasy world shrouded in occult symbols, mythological creatures, violence, and uncertainty. It opens the door into an imaginary world where the REAL devil is nowhere to be found and the REAL Savior-- the Lord Jesus-- the name above every name-- is nowhere to be found. Narnia leaves the door wide open for entrance into the occult. It is the spirit of antichrist. Remember that the antichrist, too, shall be resurrected during the Tribulation period. (see Revelation 13) In Narnia, Aslan, after his resurrection explains that, although the witch knew the Deep Magic, there is Deeper Magic from before the dawn of time that is even more powerful. The Bible tells us the antichrist shall be a "king" and one that understands "dark sentences": Daniel 8:23-25 And in the latter time of their kingdom, when the transgressors are come to the full, a king of fierce countenance, and understanding dark sentences, shall stand up. And his power shall be mighty, but not by his own power: and he shall destroy wonderfully, and shall prosper, and practise, and shall destroy the mighty and the holy people. And through his policy also he shall cause craft to prosper in his hand; and he shall magnify himself in his heart, and by peace shall destroy many: he shall also stand up against the Prince of princes; but he shall be broken without hand. It is not difficult to imagine that many in the Tribulation period, who have read the Narnia series or seen the film, will associate the antichrist with Aslan. Before Aslan departs to the Stone Table, he says to the eldest, Peter, "The future of Narnia rests on your courage..." Yet that is exactly what the antichrist will tell the armies of the world-- as they do his bidding...leading his followers into the "new age". The Bible tells us that Jesus is already the Victor. He won the victory through His death, burial and resurrection. Our actions, as Believers, do not determine the future of God's Kingdom. Nothing rests upon our courage. In fact, the bible tells us that without Jesus, we can do nothing. It is God who enables us to walk the Christian walk and to live the Christian life. The Holy Spirit abides within us. 1Cor 15:57 But thanks be to God, which giveth us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ. We have faith and full confidence in Jesus alone. The Bible says that Jesus will destroy the antichrist and the armies of the world. Rev 19:15-16, 20,21 And out of his mouth goeth a sharp sword, that with it he should smite the nations: and he shall rule them with a rod of iron: and he treadeth the winepress of the fierceness and wrath of Almighty God. And he hath on his vesture and on his thigh a name written, KING OF KINGS, AND LORD OF LORDS... And the beast was taken, and with him the false prophet that wrought miracles before him, with which he deceived them that had received the mark of the beast, and them that worshipped his image. These both were cast alive into a lake of fire burning with brimstone. And the remnant were slain with the sword of him that sat upon the horse, which sword proceeded out of his mouth: and all the fowls were filled with their flesh. THE STONE TABLE We must understand that Satan's goal is always to twist and distort the Word of God. Whether in religious writings or allegorical tales, his goal is always the same-- to twist the bible. In Narnia, the Stone Table has within it carved the words of the deep magic, this slab of gray stone is the place where the children must journey to meet Aslan in Narnia. Why a stone table? In the book, "Journey into Narnia", author Kathryn Lindskoog notes, "The stone that is lowest at Stonehenge is called the stone of sacrifice because people suspect that humans were bound and stabbed there in evil ceremonies thousands of years ago.... It's almost certain that Stonehenge gave Lewis the idea of the Stone Table." In Narnia, Aslan negotiates with the white witch. Yet in reality, the plan of salvation is non-negotiable. Jesus, who is God, the Second Person of the Trinity, does not negotiate with anyone. God does not make deals with devils or peoples. God is Sovereign. Jesus did not negotiate with the devil before going to the cross to die for mankind. Salvation was God's plan to redeem man back to Himself before the foundations of the earth were ever laid. In Narnia, Aslan’s father is the author of the "Deep Magic" and the "Deeper Magic." Yet in reality, we know that Jesus is the AUTHOR and FINISHER of our Faith. He, as God, never had a beginning. He co-existed with the Heavenly Father from all eternity. In John, chapter 1, we know that Jesus is Creator. 1Peter 1:18-21 Forasmuch as ye know that ye were not redeemed with corruptible things, as silver and gold, from your vain conversation received by tradition from your fathers; But with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot: Who verily was foreordained before the foundation of the world, but was manifest in these last times for you, Who by him do believe in God, that raised him up from the dead, and gave him glory; that your faith and hope might be in God. The New Age Churchianity has no faith or hope in the God of the Bible. One who has faith in the Lord believes the Bible and holds God's Word in his heart-- forsaking the world. The "New Age Christianity" has to do with sight, rather than faith. What is emerging in these Last Days is a faithless "Churchianity" that bases its beliefs upon experience rather than true biblical knowledge. A religion that welcomes all "new ideas" in its quest for truth and purpose. Such people will welcome the antichrist with open arms because they will see the miracles and the good that he will do. They will not recognize the Satanic deception and will believe THE LIE because they rejected the truth of the Bible. The devil is the master of deception. He is also the master of religion. Satan cares not that you believe in a god. Satan does not care if you go to church or even get "enlightened". He does not care if you believe in Heaven. The devil does not care that you believe in hell. The devil cares not about your theological degree. He does not care what one believes in-- as long as they do not believe in the Jesus of the Bible. The world becoming religious or Hollywood producing so-called "religious" or "spiritual" films is not to be hailed as a triumph over evil. The devil has many false-christ figures in his various religions. The devil has charities, humanitarian efforts, rehabilitation programs. The devil is into spirituality. In Eden, he told Eve that "you shall be like gods..." The deceiver does not care how he gets you, as long as he gets you in the end. His train is a one way ticket to hell with many train cars for whatever floats your boat. It is IMPOSSIBLE for one to get saved unless he hears the Gospel preached to him. The devil distracts men from the Truth. 2Cor 4:4 In whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them. NARNIA = BABEL In the Lion, Witch and Wardrobe, Narnia is under a curse of a continual winter. This curse can only be broken if all four children take their places on four thrones, assigned to them as sons of Adam and daughters of Eve. In real life, Jesus will sit as King upon the Throne of His father David and those in Christ shall reign with Him forever. What Narnia preaches is the concept that evil can be overcome with human government. It also projects the concept that without the power of the four children, evil would prevail. Yet in reality, all power, glory and honor belongs to God. The devil wants God's Throne: "I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God: I will sit also upon the mount of the congregation, in the sides of the north: I will ascend above the heights of the clouds; I will be like the most High..." One of Lewis' rhymes in the story: When Adam's flesh and Adam's bone. Sits at Cair Parvel in throne, The evil time will be over and done. Nowhere in Scripture will one find 4 thrones mentioned. Yet in Tarot card reading, four thrones are found. In Narnia, we hear of "deep magic" and strange prophecies of "Sons of Adam, daughters of Eve sitting upon the four thrones". In reality, any Tarot card reader will tell you that where you will hear about "four thrones" is in tarot card readings. The reality is that when Jesus shall reign, then and ONLY then shall there be lasting peace. He is the Conquering King and Him alone! Yet in Narnia, lasting peace comes when the children sit on their thrones. The old serpent said, "Ye shall be as gods..." Let's Review Just Some Of The Disturbing Things One Encounters in Narnia: World Ash Tree One of the three places where the words of Deep Magic are written. The tree is a mythological symbol for existence. Centaur The "centaur" is one of the nine classes of Narnian creatures. They are both human and animal, with bodies like huge English farm horses and heads and chests like "stern but beautiful giants." After growing into adult kings and queens in Narnia in "The Lion, the Witch and the Wardobe," the four Pevensie children-- Lucy, Edmund, Peter and Susan-- return through the wardrobe to England, only to find that not a moment has passed. The bible teaches us that Satan walks about as a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour. Later in the Narnia series, Aslan warns Jill that he has eaten little girls. What is truth and what is fiction? In Narnia, they say it really doesn't matter. Yet Truth is found within the pages of Scripture and Truth is found in Jesus Christ. He is the Truth. When one promotes a fictitious book containing mythological and occult symbolism as representative of the bible in any form, one must deem such a work as dangerous to children. It is blasphemy to rewrite God's Word and replace our loving Savior with a four-footed beast. Replace the sacrifice that Jesus made upon a cruel cross with a death of a lion upon a stone table. Jesus died for all who would receive Him as Savior. Gal 6:7 Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap. "Reality," wrote C. S. Lewis, "is usually something you could not have guessed. That is one of the reasons I believe Christianity. It is a religion you could not have guessed." Could not have guessed? Is that why Christians believe in Jesus? The Bible makes it clear that one must believe in one's heart that Jesus is the Savior-- the Messiah-- the Christ! Such rationale with the head is not where true faith resides. I have never yet met a person who, as a child, did not have some kind of nightmare after watching a scary movie. Those were from movies that did not have all the realistic effects. Yet today, visual effects have become so advanced that one would think it was real. Would Jesus approve of your child watching such violence on the big screen? We are to avoid the very appearance of evil. BIBLE PROPHECY FULFILLED The Bible warns us that in the Last Days, people shall turn away from the faith and will turn to fables. Is that not what Narnia is? A fable? 2Tim 4:4 And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables. God is truth...Narnia is make believe. Jesus said, "I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me." Matthew 24:35 Heaven and earth shall pass away, but my words shall not pass away. When one is reading the Bible, he is reading truth. When one is reading Narnia, he is reading a pack of lies. How can good fruit ever result from occultic symbolism and human reasoning? The trouble is that Christians do not use caution in the "Christian" bookstore. Yet the Bible tells us to sober and vigilant. 2Cor 11:13-15 For such are false apostles, deceitful workers, transforming themselves into the apostles of Christ. And no marvel; for Satan himself is transformed into an angel of light. Therefore it is no great thing if his ministers also be transformed as the ministers of righteousness; whose end shall be according to their works. Mat 7:15 Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves. 2Tim 3:7-8 Ever learning, and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth. Now as Jannes and Jambres withstood Moses, so do these also resist the truth: men of corrupt minds, reprobate concerning the faith. Christians have come to believe that everything is okay to watch as long as one feels good about what he/she is watching. As long as "spirituality" is being sought. There is no dress code, moral code, no discernment, and no warnings to avoid occultic movies, books and stores. Christians are fearless. They act as if there is "no devil around..." Yet the Bible tells us to "be sober". One has to wonder with all the Bibles being sold in the USA and abroad, is anyone reading them? Is anyone hiding GOD'S WORDS in their hearts? Yet that is what our children need to be taught: The Scriptures. 2Tim 3:15 And that from a child thou hast known the holy scriptures, which are able to make thee wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus. Galations 1:8 But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed.
