Most Reality TV Shows Garbage in -- Garbage out! |
We are listed in the following Internet directories. We do not necessarily endorse all the sites listed in the topsites below. Just because one labels a site, "Christian" does NOT make it biblical. So please use discernment when visiting any link: |
Proverbs 6:16-19 reads: These six things doth the LORD hate: yea, seven are an abomination unto him: 1) A proud look, 2) A lying tongue, 3) And hands that shed innocent blood, 4) An heart that deviseth wicked imaginations, 5) Feet that be swift in running to mischief, 6) A false witness that speaketh lies, 7) And he that soweth discord among brethren. Isaiah 5:20 Woe unto them that call evil good, and good evil; that put darkness for light, and light for darkness; that put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter! Proverbs 16:25 There is a way that seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death. The craze all these days on secular TV is "Reality Shows". Many of these shows admittedly have nothing to do with reality but rather "real" people (rather than skilled actors) in controlled settings. One contestant said, "The purpose of these shows is really to humiliate people who agreed to be humiliated." Yet there is so much more to it than that. Cameras follow these people around hoping to catch them doing something "bad" or catching them off-guard. There are "plots"; setting one person against another person in a race to win a prize of some sort. Most people who have appeared on such shows admit that "reality TV" is "anything but reality" most of the time. Yet week after week, many viewers gather around the TV set to see what will happen next. Many of these types of shows display the lack of morals and lack of conscience among the real "cast" members. We happened to view just a commercial for a reality show the other day and this contestant said something to the effect as follows, "I will do anything I have to do...I will lie, cheat, steal and walk all over everyone else in order to win..." How awful and how low one must stoop to say such things, yet alone do such things. After researching the "reality TV" concept, we bring to you the following: It's Just For Show? Many of the people appearing on "reality" TV shows use the excuse that "reality shows are not real life" so they use this as a pretense to do the things they normally would not do in the real world. "It's just TV...it's not real..." they say. But they are NOT actors with a script. They appear on TV as themselves. They, in their own evil imaginations, have decided to scheme to win and they are the ones doing those horrible things in front of millions of viewers. They cannot use the excuse to God, "Yes I broke your commandments but it's a reality show..." These "reality stars" are not professional actors; they are people who agreed to be in a controlled environment. For many, they value the prize more than their integrity. Many who connive and scheme because their hearts tell them to do it. Proverbs 17:3 The fining pot is for silver, and the furnace for gold: but the LORD trieth the hearts. Most would conclude that many of these "Reality" TV shows are even worse than the movies and TV sitcoms. An actor gets paid to act as a character-- many times opposite of their own character but in "Reality" TV, folks come as themselves, with their real names, their real back-grounds and present themselves as characters worse than most movies. The Lord Jesus said in Matthew 12:35-37: A good man out of the good treasure of the heart bringeth forth good things: and an evil man out of the evil treasure bringeth forth evil things. But I say unto you, That every idle word that men shall speak, they shall give account thereof in the day of judgment. For by thy words thou shalt be justified, and by thy words thou shalt be condemned. Just by doing research, one will find that with most of these shows: Integrity has been replaced with, "It's just a reality show so I can act anyway I want to act..." It's become a channel to sin their best sins with no accountability and no consequences. They are their own gods. In the movies of years ago, the storyline aroused the viewer's conscience in some way. In most classic TV shows, the characters were given a conscience. The people watching these shows understood that the people were actors in a storyline. Yet much of "Reality" TV has redefined what is acceptable behavior and what is "right and wrong". They are sending a message that it is "ok" to lie and cheat and steal as long as you win-- that it is ok to humiliate someone else; that it doesn't matter who gets hurt because it's their own fault if they take it personally. Who cares about a broken heart? --Walking all over someone else is what it is all about...Apathetic TV contestants and apathetic TV viewers. After all, how many times can one view another person being stepped on before it no longer affects them? Yet Jesus told us to "Love one another" and to "turn the other cheek" and to do unto others. In Luke 6:31 we read, And as ye would that men should do to you, do ye also to them likewise. What will be the end result of such TV shows? The Bible says that in the Last Days before Christ's return, men shall be lovers of themselves. The Lord Jesus said, "As in the Days of Noah..." Luke 17:26 And as it was in the days of Noe, so shall it be also in the days of the Son of man. Gen 6:5-6 And GOD saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually. And it repented the LORD that he had made man on the earth, and it grieved him at his heart. Gen 6:12 And God looked upon the earth, and, behold, it was corrupt; for all flesh had corrupted his way upon the earth. 2Tim 3:1 This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come. 2Tim 3:2 For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, 2Tim 3:3 Without natural affection, trucebreakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good, 2Tim 3:4 Traitors, heady, highminded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God; The Last Days will be filled with wickedness, violence and evil imaginations in one's heart continually. Morals, integrity and values are on the decline already. When the foundation is gone, how will the house stand? Considering that the target audience of most reality shows are young people between the ages of 15 to 35, what kind of message are they receiving into their minds? To go against their own conscience? To lie, cheat, steal and walk all over others to get ahead? To disregard others in their relentless pursuit of their own happiness? To look out for number one? To put aside their upbringing to pursue "whatever feels good, do it" mentality? What much of "reality" TV has done is to desensitize human emotion. What one considered "shocking" three years ago is now acceptable behavior and each year, seems that producers intensify their programming. Romans 1:18 For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who hold the truth in unrighteousness; Romans 3:18 There is no fear of God before their eyes. Proverbs 19:23 The fear of the LORD tendeth to life: and he that hath it shall abide satisfied; he shall not be visited with evil. Where is the Golden Rule? What about things for others without a selfish motive involved? Where will our society be in fifty years when the foundations of integrity, morality, and justice are crumbling before our very eyes? Where will society be in fifty years when today many sneer at God, the Golden Rule, mock the Bible, curse the name of Jesus and call evil "good" and good "evil". Psalm 11:3 If the foundations be destroyed, what can the righteous do? Things are only to get worse not better. Parents, safeguard your children while they are still under your roof. Teach them right from wrong. Don't let the world teach them "mottos" but rather you teach them biblical values. Monitor what they watch...THIS IS SO IMPORTANT. Explain to them why certain shows are off limits and unacceptable in your household. Turn the TV off and do not give these filthy shows your ratings. Consider the sponsors of such wicked shows and whether you should support them by buying their products. Prov 22:6 Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it. Gal 6:7 Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap. Garbage in -- Garbage out. Consider the following excerpts: "To gauge the impact reality TV has had on apparel trends, Jericho Communications recently conducted its Second Annual National Shopping Survey. Results were based on a poll of 4,236 people between ages 13 and 65 at seven malls in New York, Los Angeles, Chicago and other urban markets. Not only did the study find an increased emphasis on sexuality, materialism and escapism among all reality TV viewers, these traits were strongest among teens surveyed." Thus, we see people covered with rats or scorpions, immersed in mud and crawling insects, and we ask ourselves, "Would we be willing to do this?"...Has anyone wondered what impact these primetime shows, with their endless, sexually tantalizing commercials, are having on all of us but especially on our children? We chastise our children for the language they use, the clothes they wear, and the music they listen to while wondering where they have learned these bad habits. Many are increasingly prone to alcoholism and drug addictions, seemingly immune to violence, irresponsible, and promiscuous. In other words, they lack any sense of a moral conscience. Yet we sit with them, watching these shows, making fun of the participants while guiltily envious of the "goings-on."... They become "hooked" on a certain show that is sending them the wrong message. If that is not bad enough, it does not end there. They the children discuss these shows on the school bus, in the classroom, at lunchtime and especially online in designated chat rooms especially made for "fans of the show". Some Reality shows have their own forums for fans to chat and express their views. Even months and years later, though the "characters" have moved on with their lives, they are still viewed in exactly the same way as they portrayed THEMSELVES on TV years previous. Children emulate what they see on TV. They "take it in"...they absorb what they see and hear and it becomes a part of their character as they grow up. Since "Reality" TV is fairly new, the impact of these shows won't really surface until it is too late. It seems like there has been an acceleration of intensified TV shows and commercials over the past three years. Things most people wouldn't dare dream of watching 15 years ago have become commonplace today. One has to wonder in 20 years how things will be... Television is ALL about ratings. They need to keep the viewers watching. BUT How can one stay glued to the TV set when everything that could be done has been done except the unthinkable and despicable? There's no other place to go except downhill AND THAT is where this world is willfully heading...A world on the road to Hell. REALITY is every one of us will die someday. Reality is that hell is a real place. All sinners are destined for hell. Reality is that Jesus came to save us from our sins so that we would not have to suffer in hell for all eternity. He arose from the grave and He is alive, able to save all who come to Him by faith. Salvation is a FREE GIFT of God. All who receive Christ Jesus as their Savior receive eternal life. Jesus spoke more of hell than He did of Heaven. He died in our place so that we would not have to go there. Matt 10:28 And fear not them which kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul: but rather fear him which is able to destroy both soul and body in hell. Mark 9:43 And if thy hand offend thee, cut it off: it is better for thee to enter into life maimed, than having two hands to go into hell, into the fire that never shall be quenched: Luke 12:5 But I will forewarn you whom ye shall fear: Fear him, which after he hath killed hath power to cast into hell; yea, I say unto you, Fear him. Rev 21:8 But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death. John 3:16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. John 3:17 For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved. John 3:18 He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God. John 3:19 And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil. Dear Reader, eternity is long...tomorrow is promised to no man. Would you like the assurance of salvation? Receive Christ Jesus as your Savior today. Believe on Him. Ask Him to be your Savior. Ask Him to forgive you of your sins. The Bible says that Jesus shed His blood for our sins. He is the Mediator between God and man.
