"Submission " O Lord, my best desire fulfil, And help me to resign Life, health, and comfort to Thy will, And make Thy pleasure mine. Why whould I shrink at Thy command, Whose love forbids my fears? Or tremble at the gracious hand That wipes away my tears? No, rather let me freely yield What most I prize to Thee; Who never hast a good withheld, Or wilt withhold, from me. Thy favor, all my journey through, Thou art engaged to grant; What else I want, or think I do, 'Tis better still to want. Wisdom and mercy guide my way, Shall I resist them both? A poor blind creature of day, And crush'd before the moth! But ah! my inward spirit cries, Still binds me to Thy sway; Else the next cloud that veils the skies Drives all these thoughts away. ~ By William Cowper ~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ A Devotional Note from Cobblestone Road Ministries: James 4:6-7 But he giveth more grace. Wherefore he saith, God resisteth the proud, but giveth grace unto the humble. Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. Matthew 6:9-10 After this manner therefore pray ye: Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven... So many passages in our Bible speak of yielding ourselves to God, praying for the Father's will and walking humbly before God but yet how many Christians truly understand what they are reading? We are to yield, as William Cowper has put it, "what most I prize" to God. The Christian walk is a walk of daily submission-- daily yielding ourselves to God and with humility look to Him for strength, laying at His feet our desires and receiving in exchange His desire for us. We need not fear tomorrow...only trust in the Lord and He will see us through every day and will guide us safely onward. 1Cor 6:19-20 What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own? For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God's. James 4:10 Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and he shall lift you up.
