Bible Answer Concerning "The Way of Cain" |
A reader wrote to our website concerning his interpretation of the Way of Cain. The following is an excerpt from his email: "... I believe that Cain...must have repented. Here is what I submit. Cain built a city...How many wanders and vagrants build cities. The city was named after his son Enoch. Cain was Enoch's father and in Genesis 5:24 the bible states "Enoch walked with God, then he was no more, because God took him away." So Cain must have been a good influence on his son..." The following is our reply to his email regarding Cain: Dear ____, I believe you are referring to our article, "The Way of Cain." The way of Cain" is the way of "good works" and "self-righteousness." Cain being religious, brought his best but it was not a blood sacrifice. And as we know, no man is saved by good works. The just shall live by faith. And the Bible states that without the shedding of blood, there is no remission for sin. Cain did not kill Abel out of frustration but rather because he was of that wicked one. 1John 3:12 Not as Cain, who was of that wicked one, and slew his brother. And wherefore slew he him? Because his own works were evil, and his brother's righteous. Also Cain's son, Enoch, is NOT the Enoch that walked with God. Careful examination of the genealogy tells us that Enoch, who walked with God, descended from SETH, not Cain. (See Genesis 5). There are presumably no descendants of Cain alive today-- they were all destroyed in the flood. Noah, was PERFECT in his generation and he descended from Seth. Also anytime the Bible refers to Cain, it is always in the negative. The Word of God does not record if Cain repented. Most certainly if he did, the Bible would have given record of it. Cain's descendants established cities, entertainment...were of the world...worldly. The descendants of Seth are not recorded as doing such.
