People ask the question, "What is love?" The Bible defines what love is and where true love comes from.
Love comes from God and it is only when the love of God floods the soul of the Believer in Christ that he or she can truly love in the capacity in which they were created to. The Bible tells us that perfect love casts out fear.
Perfect love is established in a relationship with Jesus Christ and flows out to others. It is Him who gives us the love we so have longed for our whole lives and it is His love which loves others through us. Apart from Christ, who is the Giver of life, we cannot live an abundant life, yet alone love another person in the purest way possible. It is Christ who takes the hardened heart and softens it and makes it whole again.
1Corinthians 13:4-13 addresses what love is:
Love suffers long, and is kind; love envies not; love boasts not itself, is not puffed up, does not behave itself unseemly, seeks not her own, is not easily provoked, thinks no evil; Rejoices not in iniquity, but rejoices in the truth; Bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. Love never fails: but whether there be prophecies, they shall fail; whether there be tongues, they shall cease; whether there be knowledge, it shall vanish away. For we know in part, and we prophesy in part. But when that which is perfect is come, then that which is in part shall be done away. When I was a child, I spake as a child, I understood as a child, I thought as a child: but when I became a man, I put away childish things. For now we see through a glass, darkly; but then face to face: now I know in part; but then shall I know even as also I am known. And now abides faith, hope, love, these three; but the greatest of these is love.
Perfect love is exemplified in the Lord Jesus laying down His own life for sinful mankind. He died for OUR sins-- those sins that you and I have committed. He gave Himself for us. He died as the Lamb of God, who takes away the sins of the world. He loved us so much. This is perfect love and whoever receives Him as their personal Savior receives the forgiveness of sins and will live eternally with Him. Salvation is free gift of God. And ONLY through Christ Jesus can a person truly love in the capacity in which they were created for.
1Jn 4:9-10 In this was manifested the love of God toward us, because that God sent his only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through him. Herein is love, not that we loved God, but that he loved us, and sent his Son to be the atonement for our sins.
If you do not know the Lord Jesus as your personal Savior, invite Him into your heart today and ask Him to be your Savior from your sins. The Bible says in Romans 10:9-11:
That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. For the Scripture saith, Whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed.
