Generational Curses for the Christian Believer?

Many Christians are reading books on one subject or another but
unfortunately they are not reading the Bible. When they do read the Bible,
some take verses out of context and thus a new erroneous doctrine is formed.
This is the heart and root of their problem.

There are many "Christian" ministries promoting the idea of generational
curses in the life of the Christian and how to be free from them. They
promote the books entitled, "Prepare For War" and "Unbroken Curses" by
the author Dr. Rebecca Brown.

There is one website in particular that gives a detailed description of why
Christians need to break free from these generational curses. The author gives
a lot of Old Testament Scriptures to back up this erroneous doctrine but none
from the New Testament. Of course, this "generational curse" teaching is not
found in the New Testament, which is why there are no NT verses given for
the promotion of this doctrine. We are set free because of the finished work
Jesus accomplished at the cross.

If someone is ignorant of the New Covenant and what Jesus did for us at the
cross, they can be easily deceived.

The Generational Curses doctrine may sound really good on the surface to
some Christians but this is a heretical doctrine that suggests that salvation
through Jesus Christ is not enough and that somewhere, the born again
believer needs deliverance from the generational curses of their ancestors;
That receiving Jesus is not enough to be free from the curses of ages past.
THIS IS BLASPHEMY! There is no such thing as a generational curse for the
believer in Christ Jesus.

Our Bible says that Jesus has set us free from the law of sin and death.
Hebrews 2:14-15 says
"that through death he [Jesus] might destroy him that
had the power of death, that is, the devil;"

Rom 8:2  For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus hath made me free
from the law of sin and death.

Gal 3:26  For ye are all the children of God by faith in Christ Jesus.
Gal 3:27 For as many of you as have been baptized into Christ have put on
Christ.

Gal 3:13 Christ hath redeemed us from the curse of the law, being made a
curse for us: for it is written, Cursed is every one that hangeth on a tree:

Colossians 1:12-14  "Giving thanks unto the Father, which hath made us meet
to be partakers of the inheritance of the saints in light:  Who hath delivered us
from the power of darkness, and hath translated us into the kingdom of his dear
Son:  In whom we have redemption through his blood, even the forgiveness of
sins:"

What Christians need to do is read their Bible. All the spiritual warfare
material they will ever need is found in the pages of God's Holy Word. Our
offensive weapon against the devil is the Word of God. The logos...the spoken
word. The quoting of Scriptures. We need to know the Scriptures and obey
God's Word and pray so that we will not be ignorant of the devil's devices.
The devil loves to twist and distort the Word of God. He will distract the
Christian from reading the Word of God.

Jesus, when being tempted of the devil in the wilderness, answered the devil
with Scripture,
"It is written man shall not live by bread alone, but by every
word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God."

Anything is possible with nonbelievers... curses, demon possesion, etc. The
bible says that the unbeliever serves the devil and is a servant to sin. The devil
has ownership of them because they have not received the true Jesus of the
Bible, as Savior.

BUT, we, as true believers in Jesus cannot have generational curses present in
our lives. We have a new nature. We have been bought with a price, washed in
the precious Blood of the Lamb and we are God's children. We have power in
the name of Jesus and devils tremble at the name of Jesus.

The Bible tells us that we are to keep away from even the appearance of evil.
We are to be sober and vigilant (1 Peter 5:8-9) and we need to know our
enemy.

This generational curse doctrine is being taught by some in the Charismatic
movement and others on Christian television. It is a doctrine from the pit of
hell.

This doctrine denies the finished work Jesus did on the cross.
This doctrine instills fear into the believer, making him believe in all kinds of
worldy superstition. The devil wants the Christian to live in fear of him and
walk defeated but we are more than conquerors because of what Jesus did for
us at the cross. We, who have received the Lord Jesus can walk in victory. We
do have an armor and two offensive weapons against the enemy of our souls.
We have the Sword of the Spirit, which is the Word of God and we have
prayer. These are our offensive weapons against the enemy.

We are not to live in fear of anything or anyone...we are only to fear the
Lord, which is the beginning of wisdom. The Lord protects us and keeps us.
We are not subject to a curse that was put on our family 200 years ago. Our
Bible says that we are new creatures in Christ Jesus.  Old things are passed
away... all things are become new.

John 8:36 says
"If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be
free indeed."

The following is part of a letter I wrote to a particular ministry, about 5 years
ago,  regarding their article on generational curses:

Dear _________,

I read your article about curses. I've heard pastors preach on the subject and
I once believed that a true born-again believer in the True Jesus of the Bible
could be subject to curses. However,  I began reading God's Word for what it
says, instead of listening to another's interpretation of the Bible and found
out that a lot of what is being taught as Gospel truth is nowhere to be found
in the New Covenant.

I DO believe that an usaved person can be cursed. In fact, we know, that all
that receive not Jesus as Savior are doomed to everlasting punishment in the
fires of hell and can be open to demon possession on this earth. I have seen,
through experience, that even those(unsaved) who sit in church and read the
Bible can be and alot are demon possessed, with counterfeit religious spirits.
So I do agree with you about demon possession and about curses for the
unbeliever.

If we are to read and believe the New Testament, we find that those who are
truly born again are more than conquerors through Christ Jesus. We are no
longer under any curse. No where does God's Word even suggest such a
thing. You give a lot of verses in the Old Covenant pertaining to curses but
we are in the New Covenant and in Jesus, we are not subject to any curses.
Jesus fulfilled the Law and the Prophets and became a curse for us on the
cross and rose from the dead and all power is given unto Him. There are no
curses for the believer in Jesus. Nowhere in the New Testament will you find
such a Scripture to validate that generational curses are upon the Believer.

This "generational curse teaching" is a doctrine propagated by some of those
on Christian TV, etc. Their teachings do not line up with the Word of God.
The Word of God should be the final Authority.

A lot of what these teachers say, sounds really good until we line it up with
what God has to say in His Holy Word.

Colossians 1:13 says,
"Who hath delivered us from the power of darkness, and
hath translated us into the kingdom of his dear Son..."

Eph 3:20: Now unto him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above
all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us,

Phil 4:7:   And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding,
shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.

2Thess 3:3:  But the Lord is faithful, who shall stablish you, and keep
you from evil.

We were all under curses before we got saved but in Jesus, old things
are passed away:

2Cor 5:17:
Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old
things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.

Those who are Not saved are cursed:

Gal 1:8  But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other
gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, let him be
accursed.

Gala 3:10   For as many as are of the works of the law are under the
curse: for it is written, Cursed is every one that continueth not in all
things which are written in the book of the law to do them.

2Peter 2:14:  Having eyes full of adultery, and that cannot cease from
sin; beguiling unstable souls: an heart they have exercised with
covetous practices; cursed children:

To the Christian:

Gal 3:13:  Christ hath redeemed us from the curse of the law, being
made a curse for us: for it is written, Cursed is every one that hangeth
on a tree:

Gal 3:26  For ye are all the children of God by faith in Christ Jesus.
Gal 3:27 For as many of you as have been baptized into Christ have put on
Christ.

Titus 2:14 Who gave himself for us, that he might redeem us from all
iniquity, and purify unto himself a peculiar people, zealous of good
works.

Hebrews 10:14   For by one offering he hath perfected for ever them that
are sanctified.

Hebrews 13:6  So that we may boldly say, The Lord is my helper, and I will
not fear what man shall do unto me.

Where Jesus is, there is no more curse:

Rev 22:3   And there shall be no more curse: but the throne of God and
of the Lamb shall be in it; and his servants shall serve him:

Col 2:10  And ye are complete in him, which is the head of all
principality and power

2 Tim 1:7   For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power,
and of love, and of a sound mind.

May we read and know the truth found only in God's
Word.

2Tim 4:18  And the Lord shall deliver me from every evil work, and will
preserve me unto his heavenly kingdom: to whom be glory for ever and
ever. Amen.

Jesus is Lord!!!
