Is Your House ... Spiritually Childproof?
Back To the Home Page
Proverbs 29:15  The rod and reproof give wisdom: but a child left to himself
bringeth his mother to shame.

Parents spend a lot of time and money childproofing their home. They buy
special locks for the kitchen cabinets. They put away all the things that could
cause their child harm if the child was to get a hold of them. But what about
spiritually childproofing your home?

Do you know that you must also childproof your home spiritually?

1Peter 5:8  Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring
lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour:

1Cor 15:33  Be not deceived: evil communications corrupt good manners.

Here are just a few things and ideas for you to think about:

1)   Women's clothing catalogs can be very provocative for children's eyes.
2)   Women's fashion and beauty magazines many times have sexually-explicit
articles, and many of the ads contain nudity.
3)   Men's sports magazines.
4)   Soap operas on TV...divorce, lying, murder, stealing, etc.
5)   Night time adult TV shows that are airing in the daytime in
syndication..violence, sex, adult language, etc.
6)   Movies that take the Lord's name in vain, they that propagate adultery,
divorce, violence, pride, lust, envy
7)   TV shows that swear the name of Jesus- Most offensive! It is not OK to
overlook it...you cannot just tune it out.
8)   Fornication, Adultery, murder, lying, mocking religion and
faith...promotion of athiesm, new age, "alternative lifestyles" ...just some of the
daytime topics on talk shows and movies
9)   Songs on the radio that have sexually explicit lyrics and videos on TV that
have sexually explicit and violent imagery.
10)  Commercials on TV that appear to be so cute...but they have people lying
to one another in dishonesty...(children manipulating their parents into taking
them to an amusement park, etc.)
11)  Old time TV shows that also have people lying to one another...even Lucy,
Andy Griffith, etc.
12)  Many daytime talk shows that are filled with immoral filth and
garbage...with no conscience
13)  Many video games have violence, murder, fornication, adultery, sex, lying,
cheating, stealing, witchcraft, demonic characters, etc.
14) How about sporting events on TV which promote beer, cheerleaders, "fun"
drinking commercials, women in lustful attire, violence on the playing field or in
the boxing ring, poor sportsmanship
15) Children's books which promote witchcraft, goblins, magic spells, fiery
dragons, etc.
16) Teen romance books and magazines which contain fornication, lying,
dishonesty, drinking, etc.

Ephesians 4:27
Neither give place to the devil.

Proverbs 4:1  Hear, ye children, the instruction of a father, and attend to know
understanding.

One thing to keep in mind, these things DO influence adults and how much
more do these things influence children? Consider the following:

Why do so many food companies target children when making commercials?
Because children are watching...children are listening...children will beg mommy
or daddy to buy them the latest trendy microwavable snack or candy. In some
countries, this kind of marketing to children is illegal. Why? Because it is a
proven fact that children are easily influenced. When they see the commercial,
they want the product, they pressure mom or dad to buy the product. So many
of the products being marketed to children are loaded with sugar and
calories....empty calories. The commercials are cute and colorful. The packaging
is colorful and the kids want it. The people who market these colorful junk
foods say that "it is the parent's responsibility to buy healthy foods" for their
kids. They are just putting out the products. But notice, their target is not the
parent but the child. The parent should know better than to give their kid sugar
each and every day. A child does not know the difference between healthy and
not healthy...therefore, kids just see the fun commercial and want the "fun"
tasty food. Children see the kids in the commercial having fun eating the
particular snack. It's all hype. Peter Jennings did a wonderful expose' on the
subject back in November of 2003.

Proverbs 22:15
Foolishness is bound in the heart of a child; but the rod of
correction shall drive it far from him.

Pro 3:12  For whom the LORD loveth he correcteth; even as a father the son in
whom he delighteth.

Let's talk about cartoons:

Don't assume that cartoons are okay just because they are cartoons. They may
look cute but remember: anytime your child watches TV, you are letting
someone else teach them and influence them.

The cartoon artists, producers, directors, etc. have a message that they are
putting forth. Question is "what kind of message?" Keep in mind that children
learn new things every day. They have impressionable minds and are VERY
easily influenced. Your views and values may be quite different than those who
are producing the TV show that your kids are watching. While your kids watch
TV, they are watching someone else's interpretation of life, values, and response
in different situations.

The crucial question is "What are they teaching your kids?" That is what you
need to be careful of and investigate. It is frightening to know that many
cartoons have so much violence, magic, witchcraft, lying, disobedience to
parents, scheming, and the list goes on. That is just cartoons.

Let's talk about regular network TV:

Proverbs 19:27  Cease, my son, to hear the instruction that causeth to err from
the words of knowledge.

Children are watching adult sitcoms that were originally shown in the late hours
of the evening. Now kids have the opportunity to view those adult shows during
the day in syndication.

Christian parents should monitor and screen the shows that their kids are
watching. You may ask; " who has the time to do that?" Well, you need to make
time. You have children and they are your responsibility. You can put a lock on
the TV channels for certain times of the day. You can lock channels indefinitely.

Even some major network channels [those available for free without cable] have
talk shows that speak of very adult subject matter at times. "How to turn your
man on...finding your inner sex pot" was one of the shocking shows I
encountered  while flipping through the channels one afternoon at around
4:00pm. This very popular, well-known and respected talk show hostess was
gyrating on the platform with other women. You know that children were
watching that show and what kind of message was implanted in their brains?
Children watch and respect this well-known talk show hostess. This particular
woman has a tremendous influence on the American psyche. Girls, especially
ones of color, aspire to be just like her when they grow up. When this
talk show
hostess endorses a store or product, the sales go up. The other day, I happened
to flip through the channels to see her on the stage with three "music divas"...
one of which is a well known lesbian, the other posed for playboy, the other one
is on country music TV with sexually suggestive videos. These three women were
on network TV at around 4:00pm and you know that many kids were watching.
Just last month, she had the most sexually notorious music diva of all time on
her show. This diva has been promoting sex and religious sexual perversion in
her songs and videos for over 20 years. What kind of example are parents setting
by watching such TV shows?

Proverbs 22:6
Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he
will not depart from it.

Ephesians 6:4  And, ye fathers, provoke not your children to wrath: but bring
them up in the nurture and admonition of the Lord.

Prov 10:1  The proverbs of Solomon. A wise son maketh a glad father: but a
foolish son is the heaviness of his mother.

Prov 1:8  My son, hear the instruction of thy father, and forsake not the law of
thy mother:

Are you instructing your child, dad? Are you teaching and laying down the
rules, mom? If you don't make time today, while your child is young, do not
expect to have the time when he is older. The responsibility starts today. The
relationship starts today. Yesterday will always manifest itself in tomorrow. You
reap what you sow. What goes into your child's mind will manifest itself on the
outside. What he learns today will stay with him tomorrow. How you teach your
child today, determines how he will act, respond, and behave toward you
tomorrow.

Are you raising a child that will be a responsible person,
citizen and one who will love the Lord?

Prov 7:1  My son, keep my words, and lay up my commandments with thee.

Prov 13:1  A wise son heareth his father's instruction: but a scorner heareth not
rebuke.

Prov 19:18  Chasten thy son while there is hope, and let not thy soul spare for
his crying.

Prov 29:17  Correct thy son, and he shall give thee rest; yea, he shall give delight
unto thy soul.

Parents need to childproof their home....spiritually. It is ultimately your
responsibility. Just because a show is on network TV does not make it suitable
for your son or daughter to watch. This might have been the case 20 years ago
but not now. In fact, many of the networks have already said publically that the
responsibility lies on the parents to monitor their children's viewing habits and
that the parents should be aware of what their child is watching.

Luke 17:2
It were better for him that a millstone were hanged about his neck,
and he cast into the sea, than that he should offend one of these little ones.

Even some movies supposedly "edited for television" are not safe. They will edit
out most of the profanity, but not when they profane the name of Jesus. This
they leave in the movie. Apparently at this stage of the end times they don't
consider that profanity anymore:

Isa 5:20
Woe unto them that call evil good, and good evil; that put darkness for
light, and light for darkness; that put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter!

2Timothy 3:15  And that from a child thou hast known the holy scriptures,
which are able to make thee wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ
Jesus.

2Timothy 3:16  All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for
doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:

Pro 28:10  Whoso causeth the righteous to go astray in an evil way, he shall fall
himself into his own pit: but the upright shall have good things in possession.

Spiritually Childproofing your home begins today, not tomorrow! It's time to
do some spiritual house cleaning and sweep those spiritually harmful things out
of your home. Spiritually safeguarding your children is the most serious job you
have as a parent. Do not take it lightly.
