Mark 12:30: And thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind, and with all thy strength: this is the first commandment.
Mark 12:31: And the second is like, namely this, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. There is none other commandment greater than these.
We, as Christians, are to live peaceable with all mankind. If we claim to be followers of Jesus Christ, then we are to obey Him in all things. God can enable us to walk with Him and live for Him but we must be willing to let Him do that. That is where yielding to God fits in. The Lord can change us but we must yield to Him. He is the One who is supposed to lead us throughout this life. He is our strength. We are weak but He is strong.
As Christians, we do not always follow God's commandments. We don't always forgive when we should. We don't always love the person that has hurt us so. We get angry sometimes. We get frustrated. That is where we need to give our burdens over to the Lord and say, "Help me Lord...I give this to you...help me to forgive...help me to love....I give you my burdens...."
The Lord Jesus said that we are to turn the other cheek and to be kind to those who are not so kind to us. How can we do this? Only by the power of the Holy Spirit who lives within us. God can love through us if we yield. We are His hands and feet in this world. "Lord, help me to love this person that has hurt me....Help me to serve You."
We are to love the Lord with all of our hearts. This is a commandment. Our God is a GREAT GOD. He loves us with an everlasting love. He has blessed us with so much and we should love Him for so many reasons. He did not leave us to fend for ourselves. Jesus died for our sins. He shed His blood for us. He rose again so that we might walk in victory here on this earth and live eternally someday with Him. God the Father, sent His Only Begotten Son to die for us. What love is this!! God loves us. We should love Him more than anything else. "Help me to love you, Lord, with all of my heart...enable me to live the way I should that I would walk pleasing in Your sight..."
I like what Adrian Rogers said, "If you displease the Lord Jesus, it doesn't matter who you please. If you please the Lord Jesus, it doesn't matter who you displease."
Jesus told us to love our neighbor. We are to love our neighbor, as we love ourselves. As Christians, we sometimes forget these basic fundamental principles of Christianity. We are not alone on this earth. We do not have to carry our burdens alone. The Lord is the One we should give our burdens to. He can enable us to love the unloveable. Only He can do that. We cannot do this on our own power. Our prayer should be..."Heavenly Father, help us to be the people You would have us to be. Change us, mold us, show us the things that so displease You-- that we may be true followers of Jesus. Enable us to live for you and to yield to you ...to do those things which are pleasing in your sight... in Jesus' name, Amen!"
Jesus told us to, "love one another" and yet there are still some Christians who gossip about one another and who still hurt one another. After all the sermons and after all the Bible studies they have heard, they still gossip. Why can't they obey the Lord Jesus Christ? We would never treat ourselves that way and yet some Christians treat their sisters and brothers in Christ that way. This should not be. Being a Christian means having integrity. Being a Christian means being truthful, not spreading rumors. Being a follower of Jesus means we serve Him and know that He is with us. A Christian is not supposed to be a "talebearer". Some use the church as a means in which to gossip: "Did you know about so and so...?" "Oh so and so needs prayer...I heard that..." "Now, its just a rumor but I heard..." "We need to pray for so and so because..."
Prov 11:13 A talebearer revealeth secrets: but he that is of a faithful spirit concealeth the matter.
This sort of behavior has no place in a True Born Again Believer's life. We are to love another. Those that gossip do not love the person they are talking about. Those that betray one's confidence are not loving their neighbor. Gossip is the work of satan. Prov 26:22: "The words of a talebearer are as wounds, and they go down into the innermost parts of the belly."
John:14:15: If ye love me, keep my commandments.
1Thes:3:12a: And the Lord make you to increase and abound in love one toward another, and toward all men,
What sets Christianity apart from other religions is that we are to love not just our fellow brethren but even our enemies. As Christians, we follow the teachings of Jesus and believe that He is the Son Of God who died for our sins and rose again and so we must love one another. It is His commandment-- we are to obey Him:
1John:3:23: And this is his commandment, That we should believe on the name of his Son Jesus Christ, and love one another, as he gave us commandment.
We all love those who love us but what about those who do not love us? What about those who hate us? Who mistreat us?
Math:5:46: For if ye love them which love you, what reward have ye? do not even the publicans the same?
1John:4:20: If a man say, I love God, and hateth his brother, he is a liar: for he that loveth not his brother whom he hath seen, how can he love God whom he hath not seen?
Do we pray for those unlovable people? Do we render kindness to them? Or do we pay them the same payment as they do to us? Something to think about. Remember something...God sees all and He is the ultimate Judge of those people-- not us and He commands us to be good to those who hate us and bless those who use us. Are we Christians?
John:15:10: If ye keep my commandments, ye shall abide in my love; even as I have kept my Father's commandments, and abide in his love.
John:15:17: These things I command you, that ye love one another.
We must follow the WHOLE word of God-- not just the things that fit our attitude and lifestyle. We are to be truthful with people and love them. If they are unkind to us and lie to us, they shall someday receive their reward but let it not be by our hand.
Roma:12:19: Dearly beloved, avenge not yourselves, but rather give place unto wrath: for it is written, Vengeance is mine; I will repay, saith the Lord.
Roma:13:10: Love worketh no ill to his neighbour: therefore love is the fulfilling of the law.
1Tim:6:11: But thou, O man of God, flee these things; and follow after righteousness, godliness, faith, love, patience, meekness.
1John:4:21: And this commandment have we from him, That he who loveth God love his brother also.
God will reward every man according to his works. Those who were vicious in this life will receive the reward of their actions. Those without Christ, will die in their sins. We need to win as many people to Jesus as possible for He alone can forgive sin and can give eternal life. How will anyone come to know the love of Jesus if we are rude to them? Remember to speak the truth in love. Living for Jesus means allowing the Holy Spirit to lead you and to love through you. We are to walk in love towards all men...even those who are desperately unloveable. Only God can enable us to do this. It is His power working in us.
Luke 6:32: For if ye love them which love you, what thank have ye? for sinners also love those that love them.
Luke 6:35: But love ye your enemies, and do good, and lend, hoping for nothing again; and your reward shall be great, and ye shall be the children of the Highest: for he is kind unto the unthankful and to the evil.
Colossians 3:12-14: Put on therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved, bowels of mercies, kindness, humbleness of mind, meekness, longsuffering; Forbearing one another, and forgiving one another, if any man have a quarrel against any: even as Christ forgave you, so also do ye. And above all these things put on charity, which is the bond of perfectness.
Remember, today, to let the love of Jesus show to those around you. Let your light shine and may the words of Jesus be grounded in your hearts so that others may know Jesus through your testimony. Many people can be won over to Christ Jesus by seeing the love of Jesus in us.
1John:3:18: My little children, let us not love in word, neither in tongue; but in deed and in truth.
1John:4:7-8 Beloved, let us love one another: for love is of God; and every one that loveth is born of God, and knoweth God. He that loveth not knoweth not God; for God is love.
