| Many people live in fear. They have much anxiety. They fear the future. They fear trying new things. They fear failure. They fear success. They are fearful of leaving their homes. They are fearful of making mistakes. They are fearful of dying. But for the Christian, we only need to fear the Lord. You see, the fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom and all other fear has no place in the Christian's life.
Psalm 111:10 The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom: a good understanding have all they that do his commandments: his praise endureth for ever. Psalm 115:11 Ye that fear the LORD, trust in the LORD: he is their help and their shield. 1Peter 2:17 Honour all men. Love the brotherhood. Fear God. Honour the king. Psalm 103:13 Like as a father pitieth his children, so the LORD pitieth them that fear him. What is the fear of the Lord? Proverbs 8:13 The fear of the LORD is to hate evil: pride, and arrogancy, and the evil way, and the froward mouth, do I hate. Proverbs 3:7 Be not wise in thine own eyes: fear the LORD, and depart from evil. The Lord Jesus told us in Matthew 10:28, And fear not them which kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul: but rather fear him which is able to destroy both soul and body in hell. When we fear God, we need not fear anything or anyone else. The Lord has all things in His hands and He will take care of His own. The future is bright for we know the Light of the World-- the Lord Jesus Christ. The Lord Jesus is our ultimate treasure. We shall forever be with the Lord and so anything we may go through upon this earth will only make us appreciate our eternal home that much more. Every Christian is marching toward Zion-- the beautiful city of God, wherein dwells righteousness. The trials of our faith work patience and we shall receive a reward that shall never fade away. Psalm 25:14 The secret of the LORD is with them that fear him; and he will shew them his covenant. Psalm 145:19 He will fulfil the desire of them that fear him: he also will hear their cry, and will save them. Psalm 147:11 The LORD taketh pleasure in them that fear him, in those that hope in his mercy. When we fear the Lord, there is no need to fear anyone or anything else for the Lord will take care of us. He is our Shepherd and will lead us onward. He is our confidence. The Lord Is Our Help Hebrews 13:5-6 Let your conversation be without covetousness; and be content with such things as ye have: for he hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee. So that we may boldly say, The Lord is my helper, and I will not fear what man shall do unto me. So why is it that many Christians still fear tomorrow? Because they have not yet understood the ultimate Sovereignty of God. The Lord is in control and will never allow beyond what we are able to bear, but shall give us strength to endure and to be more than conquerors. Psalm 118:6 The LORD is on my side; I will not fear: what can man do unto me? As Believers in Christ, fear should not be in our vocabulary-- in the sense of being afraid of tomorrow. It is the Lord who gives us the power to succeed and will guide us in this life until our work on earth is done. Trust in the Lord-- don't fear tomorrow. Psalm 56:4 In God I will praise his word, in God I have put my trust; I will not fear what flesh can do unto me. Psalm 27:1-5 <A Psalm of David.> The LORD is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? the LORD is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid? When the wicked, even mine enemies and my foes, came upon me to eat up my flesh, they stumbled and fell. Though an host should encamp against me, my heart shall not fear: though war should rise against me, in this will I be confident. One thing have I desired of the LORD, that will I seek after; that I may dwell in the house of the LORD all the days of my life, to behold the beauty of the LORD, and to enquire in his temple. For in the time of trouble he shall hide me in his pavilion: in the secret of his tabernacle shall he hide me; he shall set me up upon a rock. Psalm 27:10-11 When my father and my mother forsake me, then the LORD will take me up. Teach me thy way, O LORD, and lead me in a plain path, because of mine enemies. The Lord says in Isaiah 51:7-8: Hearken unto me, ye that know righteousness, the people in whose heart is my law; fear ye not the reproach of men, neither be ye afraid of their revilings. For the moth shall eat them up like a garment, and the worm shall eat them like wool: but my righteousness shall be for ever, and my salvation from generation to generation. Proverbs 29:25 The fear of man bringeth a snare: but whoso putteth his trust in the LORD shall be safe. Dear Christian, do not worry about tomorrow; let the Lord take care of that. Allow Him to guide you today. Yield to Him and see what the Lord will do through you and for you. How many times do we read where the Lord says, "Fear not!" And yet we all still have anxiety at times. This should not be. If we are not careful, we can let anxiety take over where the Lord should be our all. Fear should never overtake us but we should allow the Holy Spirit to lead us in our every day walk with the Lord. If the Lord took care of us yesterday, shall He not take care of us tomorrow? If He has provided for you daily strength for today, shall He not supply strength tomorrow, as you look to Him? 2Timothy 1:7 For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind. James 4:14-15 Whereas ye know not what shall be on the morrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapour, that appeareth for a little time, and then vanisheth away. For that ye ought to say, If the Lord will, we shall live, and do this, or that. Romans 8:14-17 For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God. For ye have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear; but ye have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father. The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God: And if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ; if so be that we suffer with him, that we may be also glorified together. Romans 8:37-39 ...we are more than conquerors through him that loved us. For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord. Conclusion God does not want His own people living as cowards but rather knowing that they are more than conquerors through Christ Jesus. Put on the whole armor of God-- fight the good fight of faith. Know that the Lord is in control and that He is our help in times of trouble. 1Peter 2:17 instructs us to "Fear God." When we live our lives in fear of man or of certain circumstances, then we limit God and what He desires to do in us. The Lord wants to see us be bold as lions because we are not to live in our own strength but rather in the strength of the Lord. David slew Goliath with the Lord's power-- "I come in the name of the Lord." And that is the faith that we should have in every situation. We walk in the power of the Holy Spirit-- ready to do what the Lord has called us to do. It is He who provides the strength and it is He who will guide us until we pass away into glory. This short life on earth will soon be passed-- don't live in fear of man or of troubles which may come your way but rather fear the Lord and allow Him to live through you. Cast all of your care upon Him! He will see you through to the end. 1Peter 5:7 Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you. Psalm 31:24 Be of good courage, and he shall strengthen your heart, all ye that hope in the LORD. Philippians 1:6 Being confident of this very thing, that he which hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ: Philippians 4:6-7 Be careful [anxious] for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God. And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.
