How Sweet The Name of Jesus Sounds How sweet the Name of Jesus sounds In a Believer’s ear! It soothes his sorrows, heals his wounds, And drives away his fear. It makes the wounded spirit whole, And calms the troubled breast; ’Tis manna to the hungry soul, And to the weary, rest. Dear Name, the Rock on which I build, My Shield and Hiding Place, My never failing treasury, filled With boundless stores of grace! By Thee my prayers acceptance gain, Although with sin defiled; Satan accuses me in vain, And I am owned a child. Jesus! my Shepherd, Bridegroom, Friend, O Prophet, Priest and King, My Lord, my Life, my Way, my End, Accept the praise I bring. Weak is the effort of my heart, And cold my warmest thought; But when I see Thee as Thou art, I’ll praise Thee as I ought. Till then I would Thy love proclaim With every fleeting breath, And may the music of Thy Name Refresh my soul in death! ~By John Newton ~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ A Devotional Note from Cobblestone Road Ministries: Philippians 2:8-11 And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross. Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name: That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth; And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father. How sweet the Name Of Jesus sounds! His Name actually means "Salvation." The Hebrew Name given to Him is Yeshua, which means salvation. The angel told Joseph, "thou shalt call his name JESUS: for he shall save his people from their sins." The Lord Jesus is found throughout the Old Testament. Psalm 21:5, which is a Messianic Psalm, declares: His glory is great in thy salvation [Hebrew is "Yeshua"]: honor and majesty hast thou laid upon him. So the Hebrew translation would read: His glory is great in thy Yeshua: honor and majesty hast thou laid upon him. The Lord Jesus-- Yeshua-- is great! He has a Name given above every name! In His Name, demons tremble, [spiritual] mountains are moved, and prayers are answered! He is worthy of our worship! He is to be feared and praised! He is seated in all power on the right hand of the Father! Take that in for a moment! We have such a High Priest in Heaven-- who is looking out for us, who is able to meet every need we have-- we are simply to look to Him and have faith that He will do what He promised. 2Chron 20:9 If, when evil cometh upon us, as the sword, judgment, or pestilence, or famine, we stand before this house, and in thy presence, (for thy name is in this house,) and cry unto thee in our affliction, then thou wilt hear and help. As Believers in Yeshua, His name is in our "house"-- He dwells within us by the power of the Holy Spirit and we may boldly come before God's Throne and in His presence make our petitions known. His laws are written upon our hearts and we cry unto God, "Abba Father." In this day of apostasy, it is so important to hold fast the Name of the Lord Jesus Christ! We must keep His word and NEVER deny His Name! Revelation 3:8 I know thy works: behold, I have set before thee an open door, and no man can shut it: for thou hast a little strength, and hast kept my word, and hast not denied my name. Revelation 15:4 Who shall not fear thee, O Lord, and glorify thy name for thou only art holy: for all nations shall come and worship before thee; for thy judgments are made manifest. Jeremiah 10:6 Forasmuch as there is none like unto thee, O LORD; thou art great, and thy name is great in might. PRAISE THE NAME OF THE LORD!
