Assurance of Salvation
By J. Vernon McGee
We have a sure salvation, and Scripture is abundantly clear on that point.
Paul said in Romans 8:1,
There is therefore now no condemnation to them
that are in Christ Jesus.

And, my friend, he expanded that great truth to the triumphant climax of
such a bold statement as,
Who shall lay anything to the charge of God's
elect? It is God that justifieth. (Romans 8:33)

The Throne of God is back of the weakest, humblest man who has come
to trust Christ, and there is not a created intelligence in God's universe who
can bring a charge against one of these who is justified through faith in His
blood.

Paul continued in verses 34-37 of Romans 8:
Who is he that condemneth?
It is Christ Jesus that died, yea rather, that was raised from the dead,
who is at the right hand of God, who also
maketh intercession for us. (v.
34)

Drink these verses into your very soul as the words of Paul build this
mighty wall of assurance!

Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall tribulation, or
anguish, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword?
Even as it is written, For thy sake we are killed all the day long; we were
accounted as sheep for the slaughter. Nay, in all these things we are
more than conquerors through him that loved us. (vv. 35-37)

And if further assurance be needed, read verses 38 and 39:
For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor
principalities, nor things present, nor things to come, nor powers,
nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to
separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Here we are given the guarantee that nothing can separate us from the love
of God. Nothing that is seen, nothing that is unseen, nothing that is natural,
nothing that is supernatural can separate us from the love of God that is in
Christ Jesus.

The Lord Jesus Himself made this tremendous statement of our absolute
security:

My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me: and I
give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, and no one shall
snatch them out of my hand. My Father, who hath given them unto me, is
greater than all; and no one is able to snatch them out of the Father's
hand.
(John 10:27-29)

Thus it becomes a question, not of our ability to hold onto Him, but of
His ability to have secure hold on us. My friend, He said with the infinite
wisdom and full authority of the Godhead that He can hold us and that
they who trust in Him shall never perish.

Is your hope fixed in a God who is all-powerful or in a God who may
suffer defeat?

CRM Editor's Note:

Misguided bible teachers teach that one can lose his salvation because it is
"conditional." But our righteousness is not based upon our performance
but rather because of the Lord Jesus Christ. He clothes us in His own
righteousness. We are saved by grace through faith. And once a person is
truly born again of God's Spirit, he can never lose his salvation. We did not
acquire our salvation by good works and we cannot keep it by good works.
We are bought with a price! We are the Lord's. He keeps us secure. Our
good works are evidence that we are truly saved-- for the Holy Spirit does
the work within us and produces the fruits of the Spirit. False teachers say
things like, "eternal security is not in our bible." But such a statement
demonstrates their ignorance of the original Greek.

In the Greek text,  the Scriptures teach eternal security.

2Cor 1:21-22
Now he which establisheth us with you in Christ, and hath
anointed us, is God; Who hath also
sealed us, and given the earnest of the
Spirit in our hearts.

"Sealed" is the word, sphragizoÌ„  in the Greek and it means:
to stamp (with a signet or private mark) for security or preservation
(literally or figuratively); by implication to keep secret, to attest: - (set a,
set to) seal up, stop.

The word for "earnest" is the word arrhabōn and it is:

Of Hebrew origin [H6162]; a pledge, that is, part of the purchase
money
or property given in advance as security for the rest: - earnest.

The Bible says that we are literally sealed with the Holy Spirit of promise.
This is a seal that is permanent! No one can take our salvation from us.
The Saints are kept by His power. But we must give a warning that there
are MANY "false converts" who prayed a "sinner's prayer" but are not
saved. The Lord Jesus, Himself, warns us that there will be many who
will say to Him,
"Lord, have we not prophesied in your name...cast out
devils?"
They did wonderful works but yet are unprofitable. Why?
Because they were not saved... They were trusting in their good works to
save them.

They give many excuses and all have to do with THEIR "works."  They
never received the righteousness of Christ Jesus.  One can only be saved
THROUGH
HIS FINISHED WORK-- The finished work of Christ-- His
vicarious death for our sins upon the cross. These people, Jesus speaks of,
were never truly born again. A true Believer is hidden in Christ. A true
believer is a sheep that can never be lost. A true sheep hears the voice of
the Good Shepherd and FOLLOWS Him.
"Ye must be born again..." To
be born again, literally means to be "born from above."

Dear friend, are you born from above?
Have you trusted the Lord Jesus,
as your personal Savior and Lord? If you are unsure, then receive His
forgiveness for your SIN and trust in Him to save you...by faith.

Our salvation is secure! Our past, present and future sins were paid for by
the Blood of the Lamb. Our spiritual inheritance, as Saints, is in Christ.
He purchased us with His precious blood; washed us clean, gave us His
Spirit. We, as Believers, are justified by faith. We are adopted children of
God. We stand before the Lord God clothed in His righteousness, not our
own...blessed be the name of the Lord!

The Lord Jesus finished the work of redemption and we rest in Him!

Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who hath
blessed us with all spiritual blessings in heavenly places
in Christ:
According as he hath chosen us in him before the foundation of the
world, that we should be holy and without blame before him in love:
Having predestinated us
unto the adoption of children by Jesus Christ
to himself,
according to the good pleasure of his will, To the praise of
the glory of his grace, wherein
he hath made us accepted in the beloved.
In whom we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of
sins, according to the riches of his grace;
(Ephesians 1:3-7 KJV)
